Smith must focus on the job, not the prize

Callum Smith must ensure he keeps his eye firmly on the job in hand and not the prize as he looks to defeat Clitheroe’s Luke Blackledge on the undercard of Joshua vs Molina in front of a sellout crowd at Manchester arena in order to keep his world title dreams alive on Saturday night.

Liverpool’s 26 year old prospect hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in his professional career notching up 21 consecutive wins and knows he is only 1 fight away from a probable world title clash with American Badou Jack but must see the job through against his fellow Englishman first.

The chances of Mundo overlooking an opponent is hard to believe given the stock he comes from and the wealth of experience he has around him in his brothers although knowing Blackledge was beaten by fellow Scouser Rocky Fielding who he dispatched in good style earlier this year may be another hindering factor.

Having said all that Blackledge is better known as a boxer rather than a puncher which should play right into Smith’s hands given his amateur pedigree and if Csllum can outbox his rival then there’s every chance he could make his devastating power count in his way to making it 22-0.

The fight is due to be aired around 7.30 P.M and is available on Sky Box Office.
